Sod Watering Instructions
We suggest waiting to mow the new sod for about two to three weeks, until the roots have had time to become established. However, individual results may vary. We also recommend waiting to fertilize new sod for at least six weeks. Fresh sod is already fully fertilized when it leaves the farm, so applying fertilizer too soon could prevent it from taking root.
Installation Day
For best results, run each irrigation zone for 45 minutes. Insufficient watering prevents the soil and sod from absorbing enough moisture to initiate the rooting process. Give your sod enough water after installation so that the roots can grow into the soil.
Days 2-5
During this time, water three times per day, typically around 20 minutes each zone.
Days 6-13
Transition to watering two times per day around 20 minutes each zone. This could change depending on the weather or how quickly the grass dries out. For the first 7-10 days, the goal is to keep the sod and soil beneath it moist.
Days 14-28+
Begin to water the sod a cumulative 1” of water per week. This would be achieved by watering around 2-3 times a week for 20 minutes each zone depending on the type of irrigation.
