Tree Watering Instructions
For newly planted trees, rainfall has little to no value. The root system only exists within the berm area. Please don’t rely on rain or turf irrigation to water in newly planted trees. If you notice something that doesn’t look right, please text or email us an image so we can help figure out a solution.
Days 1-3 after planting
For best results, water once a day for 3 consecutive days with a hose to fill up the berm or area around the tree. Be careful not to let the water run over the berms because it will erode and let the impounded water go.
Weeks 1-3 after planting
During this time, check to see that the trees are not getting over or under watered. Look to see if they are still wet from previous waterings. Also, look to see if the leaves on the plant are trying to fold or droop down, this would be a sign that they are too dry.
During weeks 1-3, follow the instructions below depending on the time of year your trees were planted
Spring
Water two times a week with a hose or dedicated bubbler. In sandy or rocky soil it may be necessary to water three times a week.
(daytime highs below 85°)
Summer
(daytime highs above 85°)
Water three times a week with a hose or dedicated bubbler.
Extreme Summer
In addition to the three days a week watering, once a week run a hose slowly (less than 5 gallons an hour) overnight outside the berm area to saturate the ground area around the tree. This may not be necessary if the area is in a well irrigated area of the yard. The best way to know is to look at the grass around the berm. Is it green or is it thin and/or brown?
(daytime highs above 100°)
Fall
Water two times a week with a hose or dedicated bubbler. In sandy or rocky soil it may be necessary to water three times a week.
(daytime highs below 85°)
Winter
Water once a week with a hose or dedicated bubbler, unless we are getting large amounts of rain. Don’t let the trees go more than a week without water.
